Congratulations Glenn! The Orlando section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers has named Glenn its 2013 Outstanding Entrepreneur Award recipient. Each year the section recognizes a self-employed member who through his abilities has made outstanding contributions to the profession. Glenn was notified by IEEE section chair Michael Orlovsky. The award was publically presented Saturday, October 26th in Orlando.
The IEEE award and Glenn Birket are a perfect match. For over 25 years Glenn has been putting his entrepreneurial stamp on the engineering industry. His professional experience includes control system development for gas fires and pyrotechnics, roller coasters, flume rides, animation and show control, show action equipment, theatrical and television rigging, stunt shows, intrusion systems, major building security and safety systems, and industrial processes. Control systems of his design or developed under his direction operate at theme parks, casinos, world fairs, television studios, theaters, courthouses, and industrial plants around the world.
Mr. Birket worked as a trainer and attraction operations lead at Walt Disney World through his college years. Glenn graduated Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, majoring in Electrical Engineering. He completed the requirements for registration as a professional engineer in Florida in 1984. Upon graduation from college in 1979, he was accepted into Disney’s west coast engineering organization, then known as WED Enterprises, now Walt Disney Imagineering. Glenn left Disney in 1984 to form Birket Engineering in Los Angeles as a control systems provider. In 1987, Birket relocated the company to his native Orlando, Florida. Since then Glenn has expanded into multiple companies, has become a member of many organizations, and has provided electrical control equipment to every Walt Disney Company and Universal Studios park in the world.
